CELEBRATE INDIVIDUALITY

Our people are at the heart of Diesel’s success. United by our core values of respect and responsibility, Diesel is a diverse team of more than 3,000 people around the world, and we are committed to creating an inclusive environment that allows every team member to reach their full potential.

It’s the passion and determination of our teams who bring our “For Responsible Living” strategy to life, who put words into action and together create a culture which puts people and planet first.

FOR RESPONSIBLE LIVING TRAINING

Delivering our commitments starts with empowering our teams to contribute towards a sustainable future through their day-to-day work. To help embed this culture, we have developed internal training programmes to ensure every employee has the sustainability knowledge and confidence to put their learnings into practice.

In addition to providing training on general sustainability issues and Diesel’s “For Responsible Living” Strategy, we provide workshops on a range of specific subjects including low impact denim, responsible sourcing, certifications, and biodiversity. We have also developed guides, tools and resources to support our team members’ learning and development all year round.

FRL TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT

null

We partnered with leading Business School, SDA Bocconi in Milan, to develop a pivotal “For Responsible Living” internal education project. After interviewing over 75 Diesel employees across all levels and departments, we worked with SDA Bocconi to develop bespoke sustainability training that responded to the needs and challenges experienced by our teams.

One of the programmes developed focused specifically on supporting C level and management teams on implementing and accelerating progress of the “For Responsible Living” strategy through responsible decision making, facilitating collaboration across different functions of the business, and promoting innovation. Through the training programme, several working groups were developed to tackle the most important sustainability topics at Diesel, and 10 innovative projects have since been put into motion - including Diesel’s Rehab Denim, which was firstly launched in February 2022 for the Fashion Show and later included in SS23 and SS25 collection.

STORE AND OFFICE TRAININGS

At Diesel we’re committed to changing culture around sustainability by building awareness and ensuring all teams understand their role in delivering our For Responsible Living strategy. Internal training programmes start with our an initial onboarding for all new hires and continues thorugh our internal education platform (D-velop), where we share information to upskill Diesel’s global teams. Here we have comprehensive information on FRL activities, our sustainability legacy and a dedicated module on responsible denim in our Denim Discovery training series. Equipped with this information, our team can share with customers all the ways in which we’re reducing our impact.

In collaboration with our sustainability partner Create Sustain, we conduct regular training with our Production, Style and design teams to help develop more responsible products from idea to reality. This includes reviewing the fibres we use, considering clothing afterlife and reviewing care & repair techniques.

DIVERSITY & INCLUSION

At Diesel, “everyone is invited” - diversity and inclusion is woven into our DNA. From the outset we have challenged the status quo, using our platform to normalise taboos and flip the script on stories of social and political injustices. From “LaChapelle” in 1994 to “Go with the Flaw” in 2017, we create daring, award-winning campaigns that seek to champion individuality and equality for minority and under-represented groups.

In February 2022, our recent “When Together” campaign was awarded for its inclusivity by the Italian Diversity Brand Summit. Collaborating with our global network of talented photographers and creatives, we are committed to using our voice to provoke and inspire in a way that makes people smile, think, ask and act.

In 2023, Diesel, together with OTB, obtained the Gender Equality Certification (UNI/PdR 125:2022) following an evaluation process focused on six indicators and conducted by a world-leading certification company specialized in inspection, conformity verification and certification services. Specifically, the assessment focused on corporate culture and strategy, governance, human resources processes, growth and inclusion opportunities for women, gender pay equity, support for parenthood, and work-life balance.

TOM OF FINLAND FOUNDATION PROJECT

null

In 2022, we are proud to have partnered with the Tom of Finland Foundation and multidisciplinary arts institution, The Community, on the international exhibition “AllTogether". Showcased between Venice and Paris, this extraordinary body of work celebrates the long legacy of queer imagination from around the world.

The artworks tell stories of discrimination and misrepresentation that the artists themselves have experienced. Inspired by their resilience and creativity and in the spirit of true collaboration, Diesel’s 2022 Pride Collection will feature the work of seven artists being exhibited, including: Silvia Prada, Florian Hetz, Palanca, Peter Berlin, Michael Kirwan, Tank (Paul Tankersley) and Heather Benjamin. In the last two years the partnership continued a third annual Pride collaboration, coinciding with the Foundation’s 40th anniversary. Selected depictions by a new set of artists from the Foundation’s collection of erotic and queer art came to life on genderless pieces, ranging from T-shirts, denim and intimate. Have a look at the collection at the following link.

SUPPORTING YOUNG TALENT

Diesel has a responsibility to share the knowledge and experience we have gained over the decades with the talents of tomorrow. We believe there is much we can learn from each other and together we can imagine and create the sustainable future we need. We support the next generation of creatives by collaborating with over 30 universities and academies around the world, included London Central Saint Martins - University of the Arts and London Royal College of Art, Milan POLIMI Graduate School of Management, European Design Institute (IED), Cà Foscari University of Venice, Bunka Fashion College, and SHENKAR College of Engineering, Design and Art.

Below are just some of the latest examples of how we are supporting young talent.

INTERNATIONAL TALENT SUPPORT CONTEST

null

In 2020 and 2021 Diesel sponsored two International Talent Support (ITS) Awards.

Student finalists were asked to design and develop one outfit, using Diesel deadstock materials and applying responsible design techniques.

The winners of the Diesel Awards were granted a cash prize and an internship at our Italian Headquarters.

ITS Contest is an international competition for emerging designers that for over 20 years has discovered and supported young creative minds from all over the world.

BUNKA FASHION COLLEGE

In 2022, Diesel collaborated with world-renowned Bunka Fashion College in Japan to support the next generation of design talent through an upcycling project. Students were challenged to use their creativity and breathe new life into Diesel’s damaged and deadstock products, samples and other post-industrial materials. The one-of-a-kind pieces were then exhibited at both Bunka and in-store at Diesel Shibuya.
